Unlock Your Potential: 9 Ways to Boost Inspiration

Getting Back to Yourself

Woman with hands on face, sitting at desk with laptop and tissues, feeling stressed.

If you said yes, you’re not alone! Our demanding lives pull us in so many directions, and by the time we finally catch a breath, all we want to do is sink into the couch with a snack and disconnect from the heavy load we’ve been carrying.

For years, I poured myself into work, family, and countless other responsibilities. While it was rewarding in many ways, it also left me feeling disconnected from myself.

Letting Go With Love

I often miss the “old me”. The version who carried a spark, a lighthearted excitement about life, felt so far away lately. While that excitement is no longer “front and center”, I don’t want to dismiss the beauty in my evolution. Instead of focusing on the past, I want to embrace the present and embark on a brand new journey of self-discovery. Deep down, I craved reconnecting with myself and finding space for creativity and a fresh sense of purpose.

The great news is that I finally found a way! It had been so long since I invested in myself that the people closest to me began to notice and ask the same question:

“How are you finding the time and energy to do anything else?”

Inspiration for This Blog Post

That question really got me thinking and inspired me to look inward. That is an excellent question! How did I manage to pull myself out of that funk and make significant progress toward my personal goals? I decided to create a snapshot of what I had been doing and narrow it down to a set of practical, go-to strategies that really worked.  A little something I can return to whenever I need a boost in the future.

I also thought, hey—if so many people in my life are curious about this, maybe my answers could inspire others too. That’s how this blog post was born!

I’ve broken it down into nine practical tips that can help anyone spark inspiration, kick off motivation, and use their time more productively.

Boost Your Inspiration

So, you want to do something that adds more joy to your life… but how do you get these ideas flowing in the first place?  In my opinion, this stage is the hardest one to bypass when you’re in a standstill. Let’s dive in!

Paying attention to your daily environment is key.  This means we need to be especially intentional with how our time is spent.  Let’s get into some ways you can achieve this!

Pay Attention to Your Energy

Your energy is one of your most valuable resources, and the people you surround yourself with influence it. Some leave you feeling lighter, more energized, and uplifted—while others drain you. That’s no coincidence; your body and emotions are signaling something important.

Start paying attention to how you feel after each interaction. Do you walk away encouraged and inspired, or on the other hand, are you weighed down by negativity? That simple check-in is powerful. If you consistently feel drained around someone, it’s a clear sign that something needs to change.

My recommendation is not all about cold turkey decisions. Instead, you could spend less time with those who leave you feeling depleted, and prioritize time with the people who bring out the best in you. Even a short video call with a supportive friend can completely refresh your mindset and remind you that you’re not alone.

Your Action Step

This week, choose one relationship that uplifts you and intentionally carve out time for it. Reach out, schedule a coffee, send a quick text, or hop on a short call. Being around positive and supportive energy doesn’t just lift your mood; it fills your cup and makes life feel brighter. These small shifts will enable you to show up as your best self more often.

Create a Home That Feels Good
Make your home as pleasant as possible—whatever that means for you personally. When I found myself in a slump, I noticed how much my home environment influenced my mood. By making simple changes, I slowly made my space feel lighter and more inspiring.

The good news? You don’t need a massive budget or a full renovation to create a space you love. Small changes have a big impact. I played music I love every day, kept my oil diffuser running with calming scents, decluttered, and refreshed my space with just a few inexpensive touches. For example, I picked up some new curtains, plants, cushion covers, and accessories.  Even rearranging my furniture did wonders. The point is to look around and feel good in your home every time you walk in.  Feeling cluttered or dull in your environment will directly impact how you feel.

Your Action Step

Ask yourself how your home makes you feel. Does it make you feel good? If not, pick one small thing you can change today. Rearrange a corner by a window and add a plant. Adding greenery to your decor is a wonderful way to transform the space.

Switching out your cushion covers or adding a throw blanket is an easy way to refresh your living room! Adding new colors or textures can instantly inspire you and make your space feel more inviting every time you walk in.

Take a Social Media Break
Reclaim your time and break free from the endless scroll. When I took a closer look at where most of my time was going, one thing became very clear: I was wasting way too many hours as a consumer on social media. After about a week of being “logged off”, I suddenly noticed having more time and mental clarity.

What started as a 30-day break unexpectedly turned into four months; the benefits were undeniable. Without my attention being swallowed up by doomscrolling, I found myself with extra room for new ideas.

Your Action Step

Try a short break from social media for seven days. You might be surprised by how much life opens up when you put down the phone and step back into your own world.

If you’re a content creator and this step is difficult for you, try being intentional about blocks of time for creating and set aside designated shorter blocks for “consuming”.

Walk for 30 Minutes Every Day

Movement doesn’t have to be complicated. Simply getting up and walking helps your body wake up, improves circulation, and gives your mind a reset. If you spend long hours sitting (like I do for work), consider finding ways to build movement into your day. For me, having a walking pad by my desk is a game-changer.

Get Outside for Some Sun

Whenever you can, step outside. Fresh air, sunshine, and nature are some of the best mood boosters available to us. For example, you could take a walk around your neighborhood, sit in the sun with your coffee, or slip your shoes off and let your feet touch the grass.

Other benefits of walking regularly include a boost to your cardiovascular health and immune function, as well as stress reduction.  There is nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Sunlight itself is one of the most underrated wellness tools. It mirrors many of the benefits of walking and also improves alertness and sleep quality. Sleep is the ultimate foundation for better health and wellness and is worth the effort.

Your Action Step

Make movement and sunlight a non-negotiable part of your day. Set an alarm every morning and step outside for 15 minutes.  If you’re at home, drop the dishes and head out to the yard with a cup of tea.  If you’re at work, step outside to the parking lot for a quick stretch and get your dose of vitamin D. Better yet, walk for those 15 minutes!

One of the most powerful tools you can pick up is journaling. Start by writing down a list of things you’re grateful for, then begin exploring your vision for the future. Ask yourself: What is my main purpose in wanting to reach this vision? Why does it matter to me?

Visualize Your Goal

While visualizing, focus on the feeling you want once you’ve achieved your result, rather than the material outcome. Instead of saying, “I want to make steps toward getting X dollars or X certification,” try, “I want to feel stable and secure.” This keeps your vision open, expansive, and aligned with what you truly want emotionally. It also helps prevent the trap of chasing achievements that leave you feeling empty.

So often we push ourselves through obstacle courses to reach a certain level, status, or material item, only to realize it didn’t bring the emotional fulfillment we were actually craving. Focusing on the feeling behind your vision helps ensure your goals align with your heart’s true desire.

Your Action Step

Another simple yet powerful gratitude practice is creating a gratitude jar. Every time something good happens—big or small—write it down on a little note and drop it in. On days when you feel off, open the jar and remind yourself of all the amazing moments you’ve experienced. It’s an instant mood booster and a reminder that there’s so much good in your life already.

Gratitude, journaling, and visualization are more than healthy routines. They are sparks that ignite inspiration and get your ideas flowing. When you’re happier and inspired, the dots will naturally begin to connect;

You’ve made it this far. You’re inspired, and you have your idea. Now comes the next question:
How do you get motivated to start this amazing new journey?

Boost Your Motivation

Once you have a clear vision of your idea and a sense of how you want to feel after achieving your goals, the next step is to start brainstorming. This is where you begin turning your vision from “a big picture” into a plan you can act on.

Write it Down
The first thing to do is to put it on paper! When your thoughts live only in your mind, they can feel heavy and overwhelming. Once you transfer this load to paper, it will begin to feel lighter, clearer, and more in control. Honestly, just getting your ideas out of your head and onto paper already counts as an accomplishment and reduces stress.

Break it Down
From there, break things into small, manageable steps. This stage isn’t about giant wish-list items or final destinations—that’s what the vision stage we mentioned previously is for. The brainstorming stage is about giving yourself a clear beginning. Instead of staring down one overwhelming “monster task,” create four smaller steps. You’ll feel more motivated and excited to move forward when progress seems attainable.

Use Tools
Don’t be afraid to mix and match tools to fit your style. If you love the feel of pen and paper, grab a blank journal and start writing. If you’re more digital, apps like Google Keep, Notes, or other planning tools can be just as effective. Personally, I like to use both—a hand-written journal for deeper reflections and lists, and apps to keep me on track with reminders.

Repurpose Time Spent

Limiting social media or binge-watching shows isn’t just about cutting things out—it’s about making space for what fuels your growth. If I’ve got a couple of hours that I’d normally spend lost in a Netflix binge, I try to repurpose that time. I’ll watch informative videos, read articles, or dive into content related to what I want to grow in. I keep my laptop out, take notes, and turn those hours into an investment in myself.

There’s a lot of valuable information out there that can help you brainstorm and clarify ideas. Once your switch flips to the “on” mode, you’ll notice inspiration everywhere. That’s why I recommend having an app or tool handy. Jot down those ideas when they come, and when you revisit them later. I love coming across a great idea that I wrote down weeks ago.

Build a Community

Additionally, you could surround yourself with like-minded people who are on similar paths. When your mindset is open and you’re actively seeking knowledge, opportunities naturally present themselves. Luckily for them, you’ll be more ready to embrace them!

Preparation sets the tone for execution. Before starting any project, try to clean your workspace and gather what you will use in advance.

I learned this the hard way while creating content. Now, before I start recording, I make sure my chargers, tripods, and storage are all ready to go. Nothing kills momentum faster than running out of space mid-shoot and realizing you can’t find your memory card. Taking 10 minutes to prepare upfront saves hours of frustration later.

Smart Organizers That Keep Everything in Place:
Keeping your supplies organized in one place makes setup a breeze. Hobbies, side projects, or even daily tasks feel less overwhelming when everything you need is right at your fingertips. Instead of wasting time searching for tools, you can dive right in and stay focused.

I’ve rounded up a few organizers that make it easy to keep everything neat and accessible. The best part? When you’re done, you can roll your caddy back to its spot. It’s a practical solution that saves time, prevents frustration, and keeps all your essentials in one place and ready to go when inspiration strikes.

Your Action Step

Now that you’re inspired and motivated, the question is: how do you maximize your time? Let’s dive in!

Boost Your Productivity

You don’t need a team of staff to outsource some of your workload. Start small with automation. Using reminders, auto-scheduling, and calendars are great tools to help take things off your plate.

For example, as a creator, scheduling content in advance has been a major upgrade. If I finish content on a Sunday night, I can schedule Instagram reels or YouTube uploads for the entire week. That way, I don’t have to log in daily. When I do log in, I go in as a creator, not a consumer. This means I log on to complete my “creator-related” tasks, then log off! I resist the urge to get sucked into an endless doomscrolling rabbit hole. I then set aside limited time as a consumer for another time.

Another idea is to automate tasks in areas of your life that seem redundant, repetitive, and predictable. The more you delegate or automate, the more space you create for high-impact work, personal projects, or quality time with family.

  • Grocery Shopping: Use apps like Instacart, Amazon Fresh, or Walmart+ to schedule weekly grocery deliveries. You can even set up recurring orders for staple items so you never run out.
  • Bill Payments: Set up automatic payments for recurring bills such as utilities, subscriptions, or loan payments. This removes stress and prevents late fees.
  • Email Organization: You could use tools like Gmail filters, for example, to automatically sort incoming emails into folders. This step segregates priority messages and reduces inbox overwhelm.
  • Task Reminders: Apps like Grit or Microsoft To Do let you automate recurring tasks with reminders, so you’re never scrambling to remember small but important duties.

Your Action Step

Here’s where the real productivity magic happens! Organizing your tasks.

  • Match your energy level with the workload.
On low-energy days, focus on administrative or repetitive tasks that don’t require much creativity or mental effort. These small but necessary tasks can accumulate and hinder your motivation if left undone for too long. When you’re not up for much, use that time to tackle them. Then, save your high-energy days for bigger, more creative work. Carving out dedicated time for the projects you’re truly passionate about is far more effective when you don’t have to keep stopping to take care of all those smaller tasks first.
  • Batch your tasks.
One of the easiest ways to get more done without burning out is to batch your tasks. When you group similar tasks, you save time, energy, and mental bandwidth. Examples may include answering emails, making phone calls, or creating content. Why? Because every time you switch from one type of task to another, your brain needs to reset, which eats up focus and motivation.

Batching keeps you in the same mindset longer. This allows you to work faster and more efficiently. It also reduces decision fatigue—you don’t have to constantly decide what to do next, because your plan is already set. Plus, when you batch, you can build momentum. Tackling a group of similar tasks back-to-back helps you get into a flow state, where work feels easier and more focused.

For example, when I have my camera gear set up, I film as much content as possible in one sitting. Planning saves me from having to set everything up again later, which can be very time-consuming.
  • Plan bursts.
Set a 30-minute timer and focus only on making progress. You’ll be amazed at how much you can get done. Sometimes you’ll want to keep going past the timer. If you only make it to the 30-minute mark, you’ve already moved forward. Imagine doing this every day for a month; that’s 15 hours dedicated to progress instead of 30 days of doing nothing because “you didn’t have the time.”
  • Track your progress.
Checking things off releases dopamine, the “feel-good” hormone that our bodies release when we experience something rewarding. It’s like giving your brain a thumbs up. This sensation motivates you to keep going, reduces stress, and makes you feel productive and proud of your progress.  There are many apps to help organize tasks and check them off.  If not, a notebook and pen will also do the trick!

Your Action Step

This one is deeply personal to me. We tend to be hard on ourselves when we don’t meet the timeline we originally had in mind. Give yourself grace, be kind to yourself, and, most importantly, embrace the cringe.

Quiet the Noise

Here’s what I mean: quiet the noise from your inner critic, and don’t let external voices stop you. People will always have something to say, regardless of what route we take. Waiting for perfection to start will delay your process more than you think.

Embracing the Progress

If you hold out for perfect, you’ll stall for months before checking a single thing off your list. Learning to accept your progress “as is” for today is very powerful. It means letting go of perfectionism and celebrating milestones, big or small. That’s where true growth happens. Always remember, done is better than perfect. Every time you take a step forward by improving one technique, you’re moving in the right direction.

Bonus Tip!

Here’s something small that makes a big impact: Make Your Bed!
It sounds silly, but it sets the tone for your day. One small win leads to another.  Next thing you know, you’re putting away your pajamas, clearing your sink, folding the clothes on your chair, and you walk away feeling accomplished! Momentum begins to build, and suddenly you’re on a roll. Do I make my bed every day? I do not… but on the days I do, I notice the difference in how I approach the day.  If I do it every day for a week, I set myself up for success.

Main Takeaway: Consistency

The main takeaway here is simple: consistency. Growth doesn’t come from a one-time push; it comes from showing up again and again. Think of it like watering your mindset. It’s an ongoing process, and the more consistent you are, the more you’ll continue to grow and evolve.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you. That tells me you’re serious about starting something new in your life or finally tackling that goal that’s been sitting on the back burner. I hope this blog post has sparked a little inspiration to take action.

And listen—I know it can feel overwhelming to implement everything at once. If you take just two or three tips that resonate and adapt them to your process, it’s a start!

You don’t have to do everything on this post every single day. Some days, you’ll run on empty. Some days, the best thing you can do for yourself is rest, and that’s okay. The point is, on the days you do feel the drive, you now have some ideas to jumpstart your momentum and make good progress.

So go ahead—start that one thing you’ve always wanted to start but never found the time. Your future self will thank you.
